Ducats are the generic currency of EU3.
How to get Ducats
In EU3 there are three main ways of earning ducats; taxes, trade, and war. Taxes are the majority of national income, while trade is an investment which can reap high rewards. War does not necessarily earn ducats, and often spends more than it earns, but nonetheless it is an option for profit. Ducats can be taken in war via the demand tribute section of the peace negotiation screen. Loans are another way to acquire ducats, but bear in mind that they must be repaid, and generally at much higher costs.
Uses of Ducats
All payments in EU3 are made with ducats. Therefore, pretty much anything that can be done is done with ducats. Ducat uses include:
- Forming colonies
- Creating province improvements
- Sending merchants to trade centers
- Sending missionaries
- Raising armies
- Building navies
- Recruiting advisors
- Hiring Generals and Admirals
- Hiring Conquistadors and Explorers
- Paying tribute
- Giving war subsidies
History of the Ducat
The Ducat was founded in Sicily in 1140, and was used throughout Europe until World War One. There were many Ducat foundries in Europe including those in Venice, Genoa, Germany and Spain. For more information about Ducats, please visit the Wikipedia page.
