Khorasan is an excellent choice if you want to start the game at the earliest date and want to have an especially tough beginning.

Divine Wind

To the north and west you are surrounded by nomad nations who will overwhelm you if you do not take precautions. It is therefore important to peace out with one of them very early (at the cost of paying tribute) and concentrating on the other. Due to your religion you are pretty alone in your neighbourhood, the only Shiite faction being the nomadic Qara Qoyunlu.

But your opportunities are even greater. By subjugating the nomads to the west you can access the Middle East. And fellow Shiite factions could support you to become the major power in the Arabian peninsula. On the other hand India with its tiny patchwork style countries will make an easy target once the nomads are fought off. The holy war CB against Hindu nations will enable you to advance quickly and at reasonable costs. An alliance with Bihar in the early stages is invaluable

On the longer run you should focus on getting the centres of trade in Kutch, Samarkand and maybe Bihar.

Alternative strategy

Main article: Persia

Khorasan like Persia appears later in the game and it is possible for Khorasan to replace Persia and use the Form Persian Nation decision. In which case the strategy is the same as for Persia for mid and late game with respect to Westernisation and expansion.
